Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy is a safe and effective procedure used to examine your large bowel. It can help diagnose the cause of symptoms such as abdominal pain, bleeding, changes in bowel habits, or unexplained weight loss. It is also used to screen for bowel cancer and remove pre-cancerous polyps.

The procedure involves gently inserting a thin, flexible tube with a camera into the bowel while you're under sedation. Most people are unaware it's happening and feel no pain.

To ensure accurate results, it’s essential to follow the bowel preparation instructions provided by your doctor. This includes dietary changes, drinking the bowel prep, and possibly adjusting some medications. Your doctor will guide you through this process.

Colonoscopy is generally well tolerated. Most people can go home a few hours after the procedure, but you will need someone to accompany you as you have just had anaesthesia.

While complications are rare, it’s important to seek medical attention if you experience severe pain, heavy bleeding, or other concerning symptoms after the procedure. For more detailed instructions or to book your colonoscopy, please contact our team.
